When Buying Home Decor Accessories

Buying Home Decor Accessories

Home décor accessories are a great way to make a personal statement to your home. The little pieces we collect speak eloquently of us and another cannot replicate it.

Displaying home décor accessories though could be improved with better presentation. The common mistake in buying home décor accessories is when one shops around, finds a nice piece, purchases it for the simple reason that it is nice and it looks good. When it reaches home however, the attractiveness either somehow fades or the other home décor accessories beside it somehow doesn't fit.

When collecting home accessories, the following should help.

· Buy accessories that could relate with your other home décor accessories and the general surroundings of the room where the home décor accessories are intended.

· The color theme and pattern of the home décor accessories should compliment with the rooms general theme. Beauty by itself should be a reason to collect but then if it doesn't fit, you could be remodeling the entire room so that home décor accessories that you purchased becomes the central theme.

· When buying pieces of artwork or paintings, the main color of the art should be repeated at least 3 times in the other colors in the room.

· When the wall where you want to hang the art is spacious achieve balance by hanging clusters of prints tightly. This will create a window effect. Hanging them in clusters is important, as you would not want a scattered focal point.

· The base of the frame of the artwork should be placed lower and not more than 9 inches from the headrest of the furniture. The length of the base of the frame should cover at least two thirds of the length above the furniture to create better space coordination and proportion. Hanging the frame higher than nine inches will leave both the furniture and the painting to be disconnected.

· Accessories must always be placed on at eye level.

· Home décor accessories could be excellent conversation pieces. If the home décor accessories are placed in the center table, coffee table and other flat surfaces, display them in varying heights to create interest.

· Formal groupings will require you to combine symmetrical objects. If you want to create an informal look, combine asymmetrical objects.

· For the frames in your artwork, always select a design that will combine very well with the room décor. For example, do not have a beautiful frame with intricate carvings if your room decorating style is contemporary.

· Mirrors are excellent at dispersing light. Use it to create space, lighten up darker places or highlight home décor accessories. If you want to create more depth to a room, paint one of the walls in the room with a darker hue and hang a mirror on that wall.

· The dimensions of home décor accessories are important. Horizontal dimensions create an illusion of width while vertical dimensions create an illusion of height. This is very evident for wall hangings and frames.

· Another good home décor accessories are light fixtures. Light fittings could set up moods in a room aside from being interesting pieces of artwork. Like any of the other home décor accessories, chandeliers, sconce lamps, table lamps and floor lamps have to run along with the general theme of the decorating style.
